Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has driven service industries, including laundry businesses, to adapt toward more efficient, transparent, and user-friendly systems. Traditional laundry services often rely on manual processes, which are prone to errors and lack real-time communication with customers. This research aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based laundry system that integrates online reservation and real-time monitoring using the MQTT communication protocol. The system consists of sensors (temperature, humidity, and weight) connected to a microcontroller (ESP32), which transmits data to a web/mobile application via MQTT. Customers can make reservations, track the laundry process, and receive notifications when their laundry is ready. Performance testing shows that MQTT offers lower latency (75 ms on average) and data efficiency compared to HTTP, making it suitable for real-time IoT applications. The system also enhances customer satisfaction, with over 90% of test users reporting improved service transparency and convenience. This research contributes to the development of smart service systems for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing a scalable model for digital transformation in the laundry sector.
