Analisis Penggunaan Anime Hataraku Saibou pada Materi Sistem Imun di Pondok Pesantren Dar El Qolam

Abstract

The immune system is one of the most complex topics in biology because it involves abstract concepts related to body defense mechanisms, cellular interactions, and immune responses against pathogens. These characteristics often make it difficult for students to understand the concepts through conventional instruction. Therefore, innovative learning media are needed to visualize biological processes in a more engaging and meaningful way. One potential educational medium is the anime Hataraku Saibou (Cells at Work!), which illustrates the functions of human body cells through attractive visualizations and storytelling. This study aimed to analyze the use of Hataraku Saibou as a learning medium for the immune system topic at Dar El Qolam Islamic Boarding School. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey method. The participants were eleventh-grade students who had studied the immune system topic. Data were collected through student response questionnaires, classroom observation sheets, and conceptual understanding tests. The data were analyzed descriptively using percentages and mean scores. The results indicated that students responded very positively to the use of Hataraku Saibou. The anime increased students' motivation, engagement, and conceptual understanding by providing clear visualizations of immune cells, defense mechanisms, and pathogen interactions. Furthermore, students became more active in classroom discussions and were better able to relate biological concepts to real-life situations. Therefore, Hataraku Saibou has strong potential as an innovative instructional medium for teaching the immune system in secondary education. Recent studies likewise report that anime-assisted instruction improves engagement, conceptual understanding, and learning outcomes in immunology.
